Huskers Fall at No. 5 Bears, 7-0
Waco, Texas -- The Nebraska men's tennis team (0-2, 0-0 Big Ten) dropped its second match of the season after a tough battle with the No. 5 Baylor Bears, 7-0, at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.
In doubles play, the freshmen pair of Andre Saleh and Shunya Maruyama fell short to No. 25 Ryan Dickerson/Matias Soto, 6-0, at the No. 2 spot. Sven Lah and Constantin Frantzen, who form the No. 20 doubles team in the nation, handed sophomore Patrick Cacciatore and freshman Albert Sprlak-Puk a 6-3 loss at No. 1 to give Baylor the doubles point. Sophomores Bradley Mittleman and Victor Moreno Lozano tied 4-4 at No. 3 before the match was called.
Baylor lined up its singles team with three ranked athletes at the top of the lineup against a young Husker squad.
No. 19 Lah knocked off Moreno at the No. 2 position, 6-0, 6-3, before Sprlak-Puk fell to No. 59 Soto at No. 1, 7-6 (5), 6-1. At the No. 3 spot, Cacciatore dropped a 6-2, 6-3 contest to No. 111 Dickerson.
Saleh played a well-fought first set against Finn Bass at No. 4, but couldn't finish strong for a 7-6 (6), 6-2 loss. Maruyama fell to Rahul Dhokia, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 5 before Mittleman dropped a 6-2, 6-3 match to Sebastian Nothhaft at the No. 6 spot.
The Huskers debut at home on Sunday, February 2, when they host Auburn and UMKC at 11 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. CT, respectively, at the Dillon Tennis Center. Admission is free.
