HASTINGS - The Adams County Sheriff's Office is investigating an accident late Monday afternoon on Highway 281 just north of Hastings.

At least three vehicles were involved in the crash that was reported after 4 p.m. near the 82nd Street intersection.

The sheriff's office said it started with a collision between two pickups. A third vehicle, a gray Impala, rear-ended one of the pickups causing the car to slide underneath the truck.

Four people were transported to local hospitals and one person was flown in a life-flight helicopter to a Kearney hospital.

A picture of the wreck showed a sedan wedged under a pickup just behind a pickup fitted with a large box.

Numerous emergency workers were on scene. Traffic in the southbound lanes of 281 had to be re-routed.

A Local4 reporter on the scene said a medical helicopter was on the scene.
